The following lilies are currently growing here
on our acreage, most are under evaluation for
future registration with the Royal Horticultural
Society's Lily Registry. Some I have tentative
names for already, others are still just a number
in the database. These lilies have all been grown
from seed or bulbs starting in 1997, and were
dug from Fred's own hybridizing field. These lilies
will be evaluated for 5 to 10 years at our
location, to be sure they meet or exceed our standards
for great garden lilies. What do I look for in
a great garden lily? How about botrytis resistance,
long bloom period, early or late season bloomers,
flower substance and overall longevity in the
bulbs. Of course, the coloring in various weather
conditions is of high importance as well. Flowers
which do not fade in the hot summer sun are most
desirable!!
<< Here's a photo of an
unregistered Fellner hybrid, named by Fred as
Silverwood. This lily was previously sold
and listed by us as Railroad Tracks, and
has been sold by competitors under the name of
Arrowwood. I checked with Fred, and it
is indeed Silverwood. We did notify the
competitor of this, but as of October 2002 they
are still listing it under the name of Arrowwood.
If you have this lily, you might want to update
your records with the correct name as told to
us the breeder himself. This is another short
lily, growing to 12 inches tall, and multiplies
readily. Fred never registered it as it did not
perform well in his zone 2 garden, but it does
perfectly fine in our zone 3 garden!
